1996-1997 Accord Owners

They got into trouble with the EPA because their computers were just a little too tolerant of malfunctions, and wouldn't turn on the check engine light when they should have.

I've long wanted to take an oxygen sensor that had a Ford vehicle complaining about it not switching fast enough and stick it into a Honda just to see if the Honda would complain about it.

This also applies to Honda Civic owners also. My wife ignored a check engine light for a year. It finally led to stalling after high speed. We took our 96 Civic (w/ 144,000 miles) to the dealer (fortunately in this case) and they stated good news cat converter and two O2 sensors failed.

The bill came up to $40 for a bracket they needed when replacing cat converter, they stated about $1600 in work performed if we paid for it.

this is a great find. FYI the bulletin is for the 1995 v6 Accord, ALL 1996-1997 Models except the Passport.

the jist of it is you will get all your emissions parts warrantied for 14 years or 150k miles, and a free tune-up & oil change for cars with 75-150k miles. I just did a tune on my GFs 1996 Civic, so we will wait until around 145k to get a free tune-up.

Yeah this was actually found by Duhtler Honda in Grand Rapids. The Honda dealer in Lansing, Capital Honda, never told me about this, even though I had my Accord in there twice! Duhtler found it the first time. I took my car to Duhtler, even though its an hour away, because the timing belt service was 400 dollars cheaper than Capital Honda and my foriegn car mechanic, who I usually go to. And my freind has a freind who's a mechanic at DH. Highly recommended service dept.
