When I shut it off to disconnect battery and I have the AC on for a long time, I hear a "hiss" noise from engine if I open hood for a little while, then it goes away. Should I be concerned?

Just drove NNJ to North Philly on Rt 1 and it did this. At Old York Rd close to Broad St in like 20 minutes.

Pep Boys is sky-high on ATF, waiting until Walmart! $25 vs $11 for gallon ATF

Still changing it out to clean.

Also, speed-checking my speedometer speed against these radar signs, it appears that my speedometer is about 10 to 15 miles per hour over what the sign says?

I think I'm either going to have to try the VSS myself, or have it done somewhere. SOON!

This thing is GOOD on gas.

Ok. I have a spotty record with doing certain repairs.... Assume VSS is a little beyond skill set, how much for an indie to change it?

Debating, but it malfunctions more each day.

Its doing OK, but needs new VSS for sure.

might be juuust inaccessible enough to get me frustrated.

Shop cost?
Indy cost?

Just had to reset it again.

Those radar signs are ime, completely wrong 99% of the time. I'll go by one doing 40, it'll say 28. I'll go by another one doing 45, it'll say 53. If you have a smartphone, download a speedometer app, enable gps, there you go. Accurate reading.

I still didn't get that lens.

Really concerned about my VSS. Car was really laboring/hesitating in high gear today. I hear VSS can do that.

IS this something I can change myself? I wonder what "other" tools I will need... I just may, just may, need to take this to an indy or cheap shop to d, might be just a little too much for me to do.. I can look but I am evaluating it.

This is GHTs new "battery bungee cord" fixation.

No, it gives me OUTSIDE hooptie hoop-hoop status.

I have already been told, and I quote, "That junk is official" by the cab driver at Germantown Cab Co,. Cab #32. (Translation: "That car is a finer automobile, it appears to be functional and yes I do see and feel the AC getting cold and heat blowing hot and radio works and it has idled a very long time and it appears to be in not too bad condition, what a fine vehicle for the driving." Re-translation: "That g-rod is official!")

Hooptie HOOP!

Flemington, NJ. 3:15PM. Had to rock that traffic circle, to swing in for lunch. Trans got a work-out. VSS is dying. Hesitating top gear the whole time! I disconnect battery, and it doesn't do that.

My mechanic and I went looking for the VSS. We *think* we found it. Is this it? (*Note the position of the "Range switch," immediately above it. We can only see this thing, with what looks a LOT to be a speedo cable coming out of it, to be the VSS.)

Also: Autozone had a THIRD choice: AXOD-E, in addition to AX4S (the one we got, mechanical, since my dash cluster is mechanical) and AX4N. What is AXOD-E?

The first ic may be the best, tried to shine the flashlight directly on it while I took a pic. Image 3 shows the range switch, whiuch I replaced myself, and is new.

Again, we think it is the VSS due to placement (down in there,) and that it looks to have a speedo cable coming from it. Just need to figure out what trans it is, since the AX4S one does NOT look like that part.. Connector looks different...

You're on the wrong side of the car, dude. The bulk of the trans is on the driver's side, but the VSS is at the other end of the trans, on the passenger's side.

Also:
Look, stand by the left front wheel of the car and use a piece of chalk to draw a big 'J' on your hood. I mean the letter 'J' not the thing that you were smoking when you took those pictures. I guess you could use a sharpie or blood or whatever if you want instead of chalk; it doesn't matter. Okay, now that big 'J' is pretty much the shape of your trans as you look at it from above. The very top of the 'J' is on the other side of the car. That's where the VSS lives.
