My father-in-law just bought a 1979 Corvette(!) Said he always wanted a 'vette and now he has one. Only 41,000 miles on it.

He is not mechanically inclined at all and I will probably change the oil and filters and whatnot for him. I don't think he will be putting too many miles on it, probably 5k or less easy miles per year.

Of course it has a 350 small block V8. I have no idea what kind of oil has been used in the past. Given the above what would you put in it for once per year oil changes?

I'd probably go with Castrol GTX, 10w30. If you look in the handbook for this car you will see that it can run, with good grace from GM, on pretty much any oil you can find, including a straight 30 weight.

In my 1980 Firebird FORMULA with the original unrebuilt small block V-8, I've been using just about any brand name dino 10W30 for the past 27 years(1 oil change each summer).
