This was run on an 8th gen Civic, almost all highway miles at least 15 minutes straight twice a day. Oil used was Mobil 1 AFE 0W-20 (the engine specs 5W-20). During this interval I also did Techron multiple times in vary sizes, 10oz, 12oz, 20oz, about four bottles or so.

Some people wanted to know if the pleats were open at the ends since the end cap doesn't extend all the way. I took one of the pleat ends apart with a pick to show that there is glue between each folded pleat. That picture is the last one, that dark diagonal line is the glue between the folded pleat. That ring of glue inside is connected to each pleat to effectively make a glued endcap without putting the glue on top.

FWIW I don't really like this design because I feel like it's a little more complicated than just dabbing glue all over an end cap and plopping it on like the A02. Seems like more can go wrong. Nothing went wrong with this one though, every part seems just fine and it does look beautiful. The gauge of the steel on the canister is really thick, I can barely flex the canister if I squeeze. This is one sturdy canister.

I buy them all the time for my Accord. Have they stopped production?

I don't know but I have used and cut open both the A01 and A02 and the A01 has noticeably thicker filter media than A02. A02 is a flatter paper, this is slightly more fluffier.

Whenever I order oil filters from a dealership online they send me a mix of A02's and A01's. Last time I bought a pack of six last year I was hoping to get A02's and they sent me all A01's. I don't know if they're old stock or what. The date code seems to only use the last part of the year so either it's 2005 or 2015. I remember reading people say that Filtech claims to still make these for American Honda and that AH sends either A01 or A02 to dealerships.

The A01 filtech's are still made. There are a few Honda dealer parts departments with ebay sales accounts that sell multi packs for a fair price. The HAMP (Honda AfterMarket Products) Oil Filter H1540-RTA-515 Large is also made by filtech and can be purchased on amazon or ebay but usually are a higher price than the OEM A01.

I use these almost exclusively lately on my '05 Accord, like the sturdiness of the can as my Accord's filter sits low behind the passenger wheel. I order mine in packs of 6 from H and A parts, works out to less than $7 a filter IIRC when including shipping, local dealers in the Seattle area want more than that for an A02 before 10.4% sales tax, so not a bad deal.

Why so much Techron? I have a 7th gen Civic, and have never had any kind of issues that suggest Techron might be needed.

Nice looking filter. Could have left it in for another 5000 miles from the looks of it.

I agree. 4 bottles of Techron in 5000 miles seems excessive (unless they are trying to clear something up or newly purchased). Isn't the recommended 1 bottle every 3000 (or is it 5000) miles?

Ahahaha, I had a bunch of extra bottles laying around so since I was planning on doing a UOA for this run anyway I planned a long time ago to just use a bunch of them in the same interval to see what would happen. Would it change anything in the UOA for example. I've also been using off-brand gas (non-top tier) for a long time so I wanted to clean up anything that was there since I only go top tier now.

Now that I've changed the oil and I only use top tier I don't plan on running Techron for a long time or as frequently, going back to doing it once per interval right before the oil change.

Gotcha'.

I have a bunch of Gumout AIO cleaner, but still only use it once per oil change (I use top tier maybe 1/3 of the time).

Will be interesting to see if anything does show up in the UOA.

Welp we'll all find out soon when the analysis is complete since it's on its way there now.

Thanks for the cut and post. I may start using them since some of the WIX filters are made in China after the mann-hummel takevoer with purolator!!
