13 VW TDI

Is that a diesel gate car? If so can you even register it?
Its has the updates done from VW. That being said I never understood the hate VW got for that. I for one want a car that cheats on emissions testing. More power better fuel economy and they snooker the govt.... seems like a win win 🤣🤣

I have four TDIs. The most important thing is to do the periodic maintenance on schedule. And use the right oil, which I believe must meet the VW 507 standard for your car’s year. There are lots of good vendors. My fave is idparts.com. I have no connection with them other than as a customer.

Also vital: If winters are bad where you are, you must use an additive to prevent your fuel from gelling up and stranding you in the middle of nowhere at 4 am when it’s minus 10 outside and there’s no cell phone service.

The cap on the bottom of the oil filter housing just plugs a hole in the oil cooler, at least on my pop's 2002 Jetta.
I love those 6speed manual TDis, it's kinda hard to find one that isn't a dsg

If your state doesn’t have periodic emission checks, gut the dpf and EGR from it. It will become a totally different vehicle and will routinely get over 50mpgs. Your oil won’t even get jet black.

If you have emissions and you don’t do a lot of highway you will need to ensure you drive long enough for the regen to happen.

Is 507.00 5w30 and 5w40 either viscosity is acceptable?

Like Edy said before, VW 504 00/507 00 is only 0W-30 or 5W-30.
And VW 511 00 meets the same requirements, but is either 0W-40
or 5W-40 instead. However, according choice is extremly narrower.
See my sig below for all and the very latest VW 507 00 approved oils.

Any brand of oil superior over another?

Any VW 504 00/507 00 is fine, even better one along with MB229.51
or 229.52, BMW LL-04, Porsche C30 (C40 corresponds to VW 511 00).
My personal favourites are M1 ESP 5W-30, Ravenol VMP 5W-30 and
Pennzoil Platinum Euro LX 0W-30 (= Shell Helix Ultra ECT C2/C3 =
Shell Helix Ultra Professional AV-L 0W-30).

I did use the Purflux as they supposedly have more surface area with
their pleats. I will have to see if I have one in the garage and snap a pic.
It is an odd looking filter.

I actually do use Purflux with 'chevron' pleats since it came from the
factory for my Mini Cooper. This application seem to use all synthetic
media. I still don't believe their 'more surface are' thing. Probably just
another marketing BS . . .

(genuine BMW/Mini and Purflux are the EXACT SAME)
.

You'll need to branch out what blogs you visit ;)

Might want to subscribe to TDIclub.com for way more info than you'll ever have time to read on TDIs.
