Just comparing filters i am not sure if one is better than the other, but the AC is a $1 more than the Purolator. Purolator is made in USA and AC is Japan. Both come with a gasket. Found the filters at Pep Boys.

Now for the visual!

Tough call. They both look good.

The ACD looks identical to the OEM Toyota that fits my B-I-L's '09 1.8L Corolla, so I'd pick that one.

How much was it? I get OEMs from the dealer for $5.41, so I've been using those, at least until he's out of warranty.

Both look good. The ACD definitely looks just like the Toyota OEM that I have in the garage for our '10 corolla, and it feels really flimsy IMHO. However, I assume it works just fine.

I've never seen the Purolator in person, but it looks sturdy.

I like the AC because it is like OE or maybe is the OE in AC box. But the Puro says USA so it is a tough one, and they are obviously differently designs. Can see why it is good to check those boxes in the store, how easy someone could switch. If there is a problem under warranty, and a dealer pulls out the Puro it may take some explaining, they are so different.

The Purolator is $4.79 and the ACD is $5.99. The purolator is a better value because of the rebate savings but do the end caps make a difference for better, worse or none?

That's the $64,000 question. I did the very first oil change on my B-I-L's car and the factory filter looked just like the ACD, as do the ones I buy from the local dealer.

I haven't done many cartridge filters, but they've all looked pretty much the same, with no end caps, so I would be a little leery until I learned more. I would spend the extra dollar and get one as close to the OEM as possible, at least until the warranty is up. IMHO. YMMV.

Or just get a Toyota filter for $0.50 less than the ACD...can't possibly go wrong that way...

a/c used to be great filters now they seem cheap in quality...
The cans are e-core (most i have seen) and if i wanted e core i would get the super tech

The e-core's i can understand because you can get a non e-core for the same price or less, or a ST e-core for less, but we're talking about cartridge filters not spin on.
