A friend of mine owns a 95 escort wagon. Well somehow the fan wires got cut...... who knows when. Well fast forward to yesterday. Not knowing the fan issue. He asked if I would throw some freon in his ac it has a leak and needs charged every summer. So i did well right away ac kicked in everything is good then it kicked off . It was acting like it was overcharged. And disabled the compressor. I had only one can in so i thought did it blow the ac fuse. So checked that . Well after about 5 mins I noticed the fan wasnt on nor has it been on . I wasnt sure but I didnt think it ever came on so Iook and the wires are cut. So I check the gauge it pegged so we shut it off amd the antifreeze started boiling and spewing out of the radiator. After it cooled down everything seemed ok. What do you guys think? How durable are these engines?

I believe it's somewhat common for those engines to drop valve seats especially if they are overheated. I've got my 97 escort's engine pretty hot a couple time and nothing bad happened.

They use to be prone to warping the head when overheated. If all it did was briefly boil over a little while idling, the head gasket probably was tested, but if there's no signs of leakage, there's probably a good chance no series permanent damage was done.

Not fixing the wiring was idiotic on your friend's part. I would think that would be common sense. Being a 1.9, the car is probably toast. I think scape metal is high these days so thats good.
