The vid on YT shows it done with the motor in the car.

There is a vid about working on a Lotus Esprit, and they said, if there are 2 things to do to the motor, it is easier to pull it, but that is a mid engine with the front of the motor against a firewall behind the seats. They were changing the T-belt, oil, and ex manifold.

So a grand for everything, incl the water pump. While the engine is out you might as well get the valves checked/adjusted if necessary.

Got a better price, 770$ for everything from a shop in West Chester, PA, outside of Phila that looks like they do good work.

Funny, when I was shopping for the car, I came across an ad for them on a car forum at a price I couldn't match. 2500$ cheaper than anyone else. Problem was it was 125mi away, but was worth it. Got a friend set up to drive me down, and checked a local dealer one more time. They had been 2K+$ over list but I was getting them down. They told me if I brought in proof of the other dealers price, like an email, they would match it. They wound up beating it by 500$ because of extras on the car. I think it was the end of the model yr, being Aug, 28. Doesn't bother me, since I'll probably own it till the wheels fall off. My 86' Chevy is getting there.)) No one else would budge from list. Even tried a dealer in the state the better deal was in, thinking maybe they had better prices. The salesman said, Buy It!!

My local subie guy who has 20 years wrenching them charged $300 for belt only on a 2005 Legacy GT wagon with 2.5L turbo. He ended up adding a tensioner in for $150 part as it was failing.

He charged three hours labor but I think it took him <=3hrs.

Vince, you dont need to hear from me that $770 is an outstanding deal. But I'll tell you anyway, that's an outstanding deal.

BTW, your importintelligence shop received a 4.5/5 star rating on the mechanics files page on cartalk website.

That's interesting to know about II. They sound like they do everything.

Have to go listen to Car Talk on line. I missed them on the radio again.
