Wow, that is not in real great shape, but there's no reason to imagine an OEM fill would be.
Less than 1000 miles on it, 2.4% fuel, thinned down to 6.9 CST @ 100C and a Flashpoint of 300F.
Is this a Blackstone-style flash?
I ask because I just opened up my database and selected all 69 of the Blackstone UOAs I have in there and 300F was the lowest Flashpoint I saw. Of course, your fuel at 2.4% is also higher than my other 69 recorded Blackstone UOAs.
Wow. Instructional sample.
Is that "KF water / ppm 2788" 2.788% water?
What did Mitsubishi do, use a submarine to transport this Outlander over?
Pretty masterfully messed up oil right there. Thanks a ton for sharing this with us!

Thanks unDummy. Saves typing.

KF = Karl Fischer water readings in parts per million. titrated water readings for formulators are very helpful especially with esters work.

Pabs, I think most of the adds we see in the oil are designed to be there and this analysis result is actually very instuctive of a well built engine wearing in.

The oil did shear some but it starts in the 8.1-8.5 cSt range anyway.

Standard ASTM flash reading.

This kit was developed for my formulating customers and I decided to sell it as the Dyson premium offering. Brand new Spectro brand FTIR in use and we are having some issues with fuels readings scale being too high due to Spectros formulas being flawed, but the flash and others help me calculate it until we calibrate perfectly.

TomJones76, $50, includes the whole shebang and my interpretation.

click on www.dysonanalysis.com or the banner ad we have here and look under services for that info.

On the water reading lets do the math correctly if we are going to comment It takes 10,000 PPM to = 1% so 2788 PPM is actually .2788%

Nice boron dosage. This is a decent SOHC with roller rocker design. We just traded my wifes 2004 in today. This engine definately showed an improvewment in performance with 5w20 over heavier grades. I wouldn't sweat the viscosity and the fuel seems to indicate either alot of high throttle input or city driving/short trips.
