Just recently purchased a 05 Toyota 4Runner with the V6 1GR-FE engine. This engine produces 245 HP, the same as the earlier Tundra V8's. I traded in my 04 Dodge truck with the 5.7 Hemi. Just never felt comfortable with this truck and the gas milage was about 13.0 mpg...ouch. Dodge has had so many issues in the past. The first tankful on the Yota yielded 21.5 mpg. Mostly city driving with a few backroad runs to aid breakin. So far I'm really impressed with the quality of this vehicle. I dumped the factory fill at 345 miles and poured in 5.5 quarts of the new Mobil 1 Clean 5000. This stuff smells pretty strong. I going to run the Schaeffers 701 on the next fill.
I'll have a VOA on the M1 5000 in a week or so to post. Mailing the sample today. Anyway hope this truck lasts a loooong time, they sure think alot of'em.

Congragulations on the new Toyota. Hard to go wrong with a toyota. Love the milage. I like 5000-7500 before using synthetic myself. My mazda miata went 7000 on GTX then synthetic was used. Great UOA's and no oil consumption issues at 53,000 now. Of course I get 30+mpg driving to work and some around town.

This is another great motor from Toyota. Congrats on your new ride.

I think your break in regimin is sound.

And yes, Toyota sure does think alot of their products lately $$$. But then again my 3 year old Tacoma(2002 23k miles) has only depriciated to 19900 trade in and 23100 retail on NADA. Pretty darn good for a truck I drove off the lot for 25500.

I'm really not happy with the gas mileage I'm getting either. I'm around 13mpg also. I wouldn't trust the Ram for the long haul IMO. At some point I'm going back to Toyota. Until then, I'll enjoy the power.

I'd change the oil in the 4-Runner at 500 miles, then 3,000 and at that point switch over to synthetic. Mobil 1 is the way to go in Toyotas.

Thanks for the advice guys. Buster, you may be right about the M1, it does seem to do well in the Toyotas.
But since I became a BITOG member part of the enjoyment of owning a new vehicle is experimenting and finding an oil that gives me the best protection and performance. And I'm looking forward to the task. (Sometimes I think I spend waaaay to much time thinking about these things.)

Life is 10% what you make it and 90% how you take it.

Forgot to ask you guys how long mileage wise do you think I should go before switching to the Schaeffers Blend. I was thinking around 2400 miles. That would be 345 on the factory fill and about 2000 on the Drive Clean 5000. I know alot of people recommend running dino to ensure everything wears in properly, but how long? I would like to go to the synthetic blend or maybe even some GC or M1 synthetic ASAP.
