I posted this thread a while back about the horrible UOA i got from my car..
Old thread

Well I ended up geting it checked out and nothing seemed to be wrong. This is the new UOA i obtained from this car (This time sample taken by me with vacuum pump):

Engine - Subaru 2.0 liter turbo 23000 miles
Oil use - 5000 miles
Oil type - Mobil 1 5W30 + 1/2 QT Mobil 1 10w30

Aluminum - 3
Chromium - 1
Iron - 8
Copper - 4
Lead - 2
Tin - 1
Molybdenum - 55
Nickel - 0
Manganese - 0
Silver - 0
Titanium - 0
Potassium - 2
Boron - 125
Silicon - 13
Sodium - 5
Calcium - 2747
Magnesium - 14
Phosphorus - 721
Zinc - 950
Barium - 0

SUS Viscocity @ 210F - 60.5
Flashpoint F - 395

What do you think of these numbers?

Moral of the story: never let anybody else take your oil sample for you, will save you time and whole lots of worries.

The previous sample was taken by a tech at a dealership with me not there (had no pump back then and could not drain on the street). This one was taken by me with a vacuum pump.

Nice report. Silicon is O.K. yet-but that would be the only nitpick.,

Now, that's more like it. Your numbers are pretty much the same as I have been getting on my '03 WRX, except for the Si.

I don't think there is any way your first sample came from your car. It looks like they filled the bottle from the waste barrel.

still have the OEM air filter that came with the car. Doesthe higher Si number mean its time for replacement?

well 4ppms of the Si are from the oil as additives used by Mobi1l for anti-foaming. The rest is from the air filter unless the seals are still leaching but they should not be leaching that long. It is not overly high but worth checking the filter just in case, you are approaching the miles where the filter should be changed I think based on my preferred replacement rate, not sure what the owners manual says but I like to change once a year or 24,000 miles regardless.

On the sample differences I am willing to bet the mechanic took the first few drops that came out of the oil pan instead of a mid stream sample like you would get with the sampling device. I doubt they would be very careful with their sampling technique and general dirty working conditions.
