Hello from the Oil boards!

I decided on M1 0-40 for the OCI by the way.
My Mechanic will charge only $50 to drain & replace the ATF.
I am asking for recommendations on that now.
She'll do it old school; drain it all & change the filter.
She'll replace the gasket as well of course.
There are 152,000 miles on the engine.
The Trans has yellow #s on it indicating a junkyard buy.
I drive fast. I rarely if ever off-road.
It's an automatic transmission.

What brand & type of ATF shall I buy?
What brand & type of differential fluid shall I buy?

Thank you.

You need a fluid exchange for the transmission, not just a drain & fill. A drain & fill only exchanges about 1/3 of the total ATF.

I would go for Amsoil ATF, that is what is in my Jeep GC and Amsoil SG in the diff. Amsoil ATF in the transfer case also. Its expensive, but you cannot find better ATF.

I would go to an Indy shop. Whoever does it make sure they use the proper fluid, not some generic stuff where that add a magic potion to make if exactly for your transmission. (Not to be confused with some true almost universal ATFs like Amsoil).

I disagree completely!

I would not do a flush with that many miles if thats what you guys are talking about, might damage the transmission by moving gunk around.

just do a drain and filter change and then only use ATF+4 fluid

the 32rh is a great transmission. do the regular filter changes (as the owners manual recommends) every 30k miles and keep it out of water and you will be fine.

if you want to do a little extra since your mileage is higher you could install one of these transmission pans that are larger capacity and have a built in drain plug. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DCC-4007886/Application/?prefilter=1

then you will be adding extra clean fluid when you do the change and with the built in drain plug you could change it as often as you want and just leave the filter.

Is this an opinion or do you have first hand knowledge where a complete fluid exchange caused a problem with a transmission that was in good shape prior to the work being done?

Install an inline Magnefine, it will catch most of the crud.

A drain & refill will introduce 1/3 to 1/2 new ATF and that will also clean up the transmission to some extent. Loosened crud will move through the transmission, with most caught in the filter or magnet.

You can get a drain plug installed on any transmission pan. The plug and adapter is about $10.

I also would do a pan drop and filter change, and use any brand of licensed ATF+4.

The 32RH is a good transmission. However, being an 02 he has the horrible, unreliable overdrive transmission that the wranglers got stuck with for the next 9 years ...

??? Im not sure what your talking about

IIRC the jeep wrangler used the 32rh 3 speed transmission with no over drive with the 4.0 I6 till 2003. then they switched to the 4 speed automatic for 2004-2006.

Lets compromise; they started putting them in the 2003 models. The same year that they started the neon 4 cyl instead of the AMC 2.5.

I completely agree with him. Better off with a drop then a flush. If you can afford a bigger pan with a drainplug that would be awesome. It would add more fluid to the system and your next ATF change will be just as easy as an oil change. I say go with any ATF +4. Even supertech is licensed so you know any of the fluid will be within Mopar specs. Some are better then others but at 156k fresh fluid is better no fluid

You can call or stop by a dealer and ask for a Star Network report, its basically the "build list" as it came from the factory. It will say the exact transmission, transfer case, diffs, etc.

you can request a build sheet from jeep online

They need your VIN IIRC and can tell you everything your vehicle came with.

I got mine in 2 days emailed
