I'm going to have the plugs replaced in my Taurus X next week and I'm trying to decide if I should go with the OEM Motorcraft platinum plugs or Bosch platinum. I've always had good results with Bosch platinum. I've used them in various vehicles since Bosch first introduced them.

Comments? Suggestions?

I've owned quite a few Fords, and it's always been my experience that they seem to run best on the OEM Motorcraft plugs.

OEM Not for nothing when I had my focus i installed Bosch And had a misfire Went to OEM not a problem Then again a friend of mine installed Bosch In his car with no problems whatsoever.

I have a Mercury Sable Wagon and put Bosch Fusion +4 in several years back thinking the iridium and 4 prongs would last the life of the vehicle. Although the car ran fine fuel economy dipped but that was before the price jumps when gas was under $2/gal. Less than 2 weeks ago I replaced the front 3 plugs with Denso Platinum TT because the car was idling a bit rough. I have had good luck with both Denso and NGK and wanted to try these. I still hav to do the rear 3 plugs but due to weather and time I have yet to do them. This weekend I plan to remedy that. My fuel economy on several trips now has went from 24-25 mpg up to 29-30. I really had no idea the Bosch plugs were performing that poorly as the ran fine on them. If it were not for the slightly rougher idle I would likely have left them. I would avoid the Bosch if it were me.

Autolite makes the Motorcraft-branded plugs for Ford, so you could say they're the same.

To answer the OP's question, stick with Motorcraft (or Autolite). A lot of Ford products don't like Bosch.

On my dad's Vulcan Taurus, Bosch Platinum IR Fusion works fine. 1 of the OEM has a crack on the porcelain insulator and causes a drop in fuel economy (from around 26mpg highway to 20mpg highway).

I think Motorcraft switched suppliers for the 3.0 Duratec spark plugs around '07 or '08.

The OE Motorcrafts that came out of my '05 Duratec were definitely Autolites. Same black shell. Same electrodes. Insulator might have had an extra rib or something but it was definitely a very Autolite style plug.

The replacement part number has a silver shell. It looks more like a Bosch style shell but it has a platinum pad instead of a fine wire. It doesn't have an NGK or Denso style center electrode. Made in Mexico. Could be Beru...

Bosch plugs are not nearly as good as they were years back.Years ago I tried the +4s and the car idled very roughly.I quickly took them out and trashed them.
Here's a bit of trivia....You would associate German cars with Bosch, but way back in 1955 James Dean, his mechanic and Competition Motors used Champion plugs in his new 550 Porsche Spyder...not Bosch...wonder why..??

Because the parts stores in the '50s did not stock Bosch?

in those days you had real countermen with a rack of paper catalogue and a limited number of brands. No real reason to stock R.Bosch parts. Foreign cars in 1955 were llikely English. Not many German and virtually no Japanese cars.
