    SHAES-429 vs GL 4 OR GL 5

What is the difference in the API GL (4 or 5) spec and the HD spec of SHAES-256 rev C and the SHAES-429? I've done some exhausting reading, but coming up empty minded!

Spicer 6+1 ESO65-7A medium duty manual

I have a 1998 International 4700 medium duty cab/chassis with a PTO driven crane on it. This has the T444e (7.3 power stroke) in it. I've done some research and there is a multitude of fluids which this transmission can take, everything from HDMO to 50wt oil. This is an overdrive syncronized...

    Copper vs Iridium spark plugs?

What is the real advantage to Iridium plugs? Simply longevity, or is the spark actually any different with the very fine tip? Silly question, but I have a snowmobile with a Suzuki 660cc 3 cyl 4 stroke EFI engine. I'm quite sure it's a JDM small vehicle engine used in multiple applications...

    Rubber hose for Diesel fuel

Looking to add a fuel filter/water separator to my diesel tractor, and a diesel medium duty truck. Not sure if we have any bio-diesel blends here, but may in the future. What fuel line would be acceptable and not turn to mush or harden over time? Looking at Gates website it looks like their...

    M1 0w-40 FS vs Rotella T6 5w-40

What really is the difference? I'd like something with good additive package for use in small engines with no emissions, full pressure lubrication. Also may end up in my Pentastar, and Toyota 1AR-FE 2.7. Both port injected.

Toyota 1AR-FE (2.7L) intake cam phaser

Bought a 2013 Venza from an elderly family member who rarely drove it. Has 21,000 miles on it. Makes the typical cam phaser rattle on startup as seems common to toyotas of this era. I bought a new phaser and associated Gaskets at our local dealer. Found a TSB which calls out this phaser who...

    first use of Fram filter

Never thought I'd see the day when I used a Fram product. I have always been a Wix guy, but now with Mann Hummel their quality seems to be slipping. So, thanks to BITOG I went out and got this. Sent for UOA as this is a 2 year oil change with Amsoil Z-Rod. I'll see how that comes out. I may...

    Fuel sending unit sealant

Working on my old car. The Specrta fuel sending unit was leaking at the electrical stud and was only reading full or empty when rank was below ¾ full. I rewound the broken resistance wire and got the 10-70 ohm scale working satisfactorily for this type of car. I revealed the sending unit stud...

    KYB gas adjust first impressions

Just put 4 KYBs on my 59 Galaxie 500. I had some yellow parts store specials on the rear and standard Excel-G on the front. I lowered the front with shorter springs 2 years ago, and the front bounced....bad. I know I was out of the shock's correct height with a 2.5" lower ride. I found a...

    Rectifier/Regulator for AGM batteries

I'm working on a small v twin engine which has no 12v output. The permanent magnet stator (single phase) is good, but the little wimpy regulator is fried. Well I wanted to upgrade to an external finned unit that would be suitable for the AGM battery I have in the machine. It looks like most of...

1AR-FE cam phaser noise related to oil?

Just bought a 2013 Venza with the 2.7 and VVTi on both exhaust and intake cams. The vehicle has 19,000 miles. It belonged to an elderly family member who no longer drives. This thing was only driven every few weeks at about 40mph.... It has an obvious cam parser rattle on cold startup. It has...

Increasing towing capacity on Toyota Transaxle

We are looking at a pristine 15,000 mile 2013 Venza. Only driven every few weeks etc. It has the 2.7 banger and AWD. Towing capacity is listed at 1,000 lbs, but in V6 trim it is 3500 lbs. What is the real difference? Added cooling? Hard parts any different? I'd think the 180ish ponies...

Were vehicles ever available with manual disc brakes?

I'm not aware of manual disc brakes, only manual drums back in the 60s and earlier. Another fellow was saying he remembers manual discs, but I don't. Servo action of drums requiring lower pressure, but disc needs higher pressure, therefore boosted is what I always believed.

Completely sold on JD Cool-Gard II

Just wanted to give some somewhat scientific evidence that JD CGII works. I dumped the 2 year old green/distilled water 50/50 mix of IAT (also had a bottle of Rislone Hy-Per cool). Flushed system with hot domestic water....many gallons, removed thermostat etc. Blew everything out with...

Used Pilot vs Highlander 2016-2018 vintage

Wife still looking at vehicles. I am not stuck on Japanese brands, but these are what we are currently looking at. Would like 3rd row, as they have decent cargo space and AWD as we have 6 months of winter. We have a 3,500lb camper, but towing that with new vehicle isn't a must. What are the...

Difference between Asian Blue, and Asian Green

They both seem to be a P-HOAT, other than dye color, what is the difference? My Japanese tractor needs some coolant, I just put a heater on it. It is green, and the manual says: Looks like an Asian Green to me. But....I cannot find any Asian green anywhere locally, only Asian Blue. Should I...

Anyone using Gates Thermoplastic hose clamps?

I've read quite a bit about these and they seem to have been on the market for 30 years, aimed originally at the heavy duty equipment and OTR truck market. I really like the clean look, and would like to try them on my tractor and classic car. Not being able to be reused is a drawback for...

Looking at a 2020 Honda Pilot for my wife

This only has one of my dislikes: GDI. Traveling about 5 hours to see it this week. Not sure if it has the 6 or 9 speed. Are Honda V6s still belt driven or have they gone to a chain? I've been out of the business for 15 years! What should I look for? Would you buy one of these? This is...
