Oil Interval for 2016 Commodore SV6

Fellow Kiwi here... Supercheap normally have 25 to 30 percent off storewide on Xmas day (I know that doesn't help right now!), so I tend to buy oil in 20l lots then. Last lot (of 15w40) was about $90nz for 20l delivered so sometimes there are wins to be had. Waitangi day and Easter are very...

Thanks for the further info. Sound logic in there, will add it to my thought process and hope to never need it. Appreciate it.

    Depressurization incidents..

Cujet, you mention once mask is on with 100% selected, you learned to exhale then inhale deeply. What made you choose this specific breath pattern? Genuinely curious, as I have never seen nor heard any advice on how to breathe once the mask is on and doing it's thing. Thanks in advance.

    Toyota Starlet (valve cover/filter pics)

Thanks for the words of advice. I had the oil pan off a year or so ago and was surprised to find it was pretty much clean. Given the look of the top end I had braced myself for a sump full of vegemite/marmite. On the valve adjustment, I haven't checked the clearances but you may have a point...

    Toyota Starlet (valve cover/filter pics)

So, a year or so on and the car has now done 180000km. The amount of muck in the filter is pretty similar to the earlier pictures, although this run was 10000km vs 5000km for the last lot. Car has been getting a few longer runs recently so although it has had some milkshake under the oil cap at...

    Mazda Premacy.

Well that's a mystery... Doesn't look like a Mazda Premacy. Appears to be a Suzuki something. Carjam says the plate is allocated to a Mazda Proceed. Must be a story here...

    Toyota Starlet (valve cover/filter pics)

Did some googling on this engine (4efe) and its head gasket... Sounds like the normal failure is into the water jacket, so since there are no evidence of bubbles in the coolant/changing coolant level/unstable water temp I'm becoming more inclined to think the moisture in the oil/filter is...

    Toyota Starlet (valve cover/filter pics)

So did it stop the oil burning?! I had a similar Corolla several years ago, great car but the lack of airbags eventually started to bother me. Sorry to hear about the bus problem...

    Toyota Starlet (valve cover/filter pics)

Yes the filter is pretty filthy, given the car gets short tripped most of the time I'm hoping that might be the reason for the moisture, hopefully not the head gasket... The solids are presumably being loosened up from within the engine so the filter is doing its job in that sense. The previous...

    Toyota Starlet (valve cover/filter pics)

Put a new PCV valve in today, the old one was stuck more or less solid. Might have something to do with the varnish in the pictures posted earlier? New thermostat too, no reason to doubt the old one but had the cooling system apart to flush the heater core out. Still some rusty flakes floating...

    Toyota Starlet (valve cover/filter pics)

Pictures from this morning. Hard to see any change from 5000km ago, but then it isn't a lot of km either.

    Toyota Starlet (valve cover/filter pics)

Just to confirm the filter photos were on a filter (and oil) that had done 5000km. The previous 2 had done 2500km but didn't show hardly anything when cut open. I can't recall if I cut open the filter that came off at purchase time, maybe it would have been interesting. I'm guessing the shortish...

    Toyota Starlet (valve cover/filter pics)

First post here... From way down in New Zealand. This is my wife's 97 Toyota Starlet with a 4efe 1.3, we've had it a year or so. Bought for stepdaughter to drive with 160000km, now it's at 170000km. Does not appear to have had much love over the years, have replaced the radiator and heater core...
