The one question I have about Havoline is that its Viscosity Index number is usually a little lower than that of Pennzoil or Castrol. Do the other Havoline numbers, such as Flash Point, make up for that or is the Viscosity Index number not that important??

Hypothetical Question: You need a case each of 5W30 and 10W30 conventional oil with SM rating. Pennzoil, Castrol and Havoline are exactly the same price. Which would you buy and why?

Does anyone have any idea why gasoline prices are increasing "due to the increasing price of a barrel of crude oil" but engine oil prices are not generally going up? Is it because lots of engine oil is recycled or is it that they just haven't gotten around to ripping us off on engine oil yet?

Do you oilers know of any owner's manual for any automobile or light pickup that recommends use of 10W40? I do not and wonder why guys on here and other threads talk about using it. Some manuals even specifically state that it should not be used.

One more question - How would you rank the following dino oils: Formula Shell, Exxon Superflo, Citgo Superguard? By the way, Pepboys has Formula Shell after mail-in rebate for $.79. However, it is SL, not SM.

Another question for you fine oilers. Why is Exxon Superflo always so cheap?

Without regard to price, based on quality only, which conventional oil is better between Castrol or Havoline if have to choose between the two?
