I was under an F-150 that had a ziptie around a boot for the steering rack and it was moving on and off freely.

I hate dipsticks that show two ranges. What does the manual refer to as "safe?" The area labelled as such or the two dots? I think if I pulled that dipstick out without any other info I would think it was overfilled.

By front grip cut out, are you referring to finger grooves? I'm yet to try a gen 5. I'm happy with my gen 4s. Also did not have an issue with gen 3. Just curious, what makes you unhappy with the gen 5? If you're unhappy with a gen 5, you can't go wrong with an older model.

I use 5W-30 conventional and have had no issues in the winter in Maine. Starts around -20F are not uncommon.

Yes, I'd use something different. What I'd use, I don't know. Currently using ST oil and filters that meet spec and changing at the manufacturer's recommended interval. Boring, I know. I'm very confident all of the cars I service will have rusted away long before I have any oil related issue.

Update: Contacted Ford multiple times. No help with clutches/input shaft seal repair. Ended up going to a dealer in Canada. TCM replaced for free as it was still under extended warranty (10 years for this, 7 years for clutches/input shaft seal). Came out to $1100 Canadian. Much much less than...
