    Mixing brands with same weight

After searching around town I guess I found the last container of 5W-40 diesel oil. I used Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme. Also ordered 3 gallons of the same from Amazon but will have to wait a month for delivery.

    Mixing brands with same weight

Or maybe the "Similar threads" help function below the message you are typing didn't answer my question which was specific for diesel oils. Or maybe the dumb part of your post was spending the time and energy to type something but not answering my question? Thanks to the others that actually...

    Mixing brands with same weight

I have been using Shell Rotella T6 5W/40 for my 2014 F250 6.7L diesel but can't find any right now. Can I use any other brand of diesel oil with the same weight to top off my oil in my truck? I need probably a quart. I'm thinking about using Mobil Delvac 1 5W/40

SHOCKING: Car runs much quieter with Toyota 0W20

I think all of this is in your head. Oil is a lubricant and as long as you are within the temperature range of the viscosity it doesn't matter. 15W/40 is probably the best grade of oil to use if you are within the temperature requirements.

    Stealthy quiet minivan

Quite a few people buy into the oil grade and brand hype. As long as you follow the temperature limits of the specific oil viscosity and change your oil regularly it doesn't matter what grade or brand of oil you use. People spending over $6.00 a quart on oil are being suckered.

    Any downsides to thicker oil?

Well I do live in a warmer climate (Texas) but I've put 15W/40 Diesel oil in Honda and Mazda car and the mpg was never affected. I also put it in a 4 cylinder Ranger and 8 cylinder E350 van with no MPG decrease. I ran that grade of oil through summer and "winter".

    15W/40 Diesel oil in cars

So you believe a 8 cylinder Ford E350 (calling for 5W/20)has tighter bearing clearances than a 4 cylinder Mazda 626 (calling for 10W/30)? Yes, let's put our faith in the oil companies that have given us the likes of the gulf oil spill and billions of dollars in profits. Watch the documentary...
