12 year old case of Mobil One

I say go for it! Your Volvo has a tough engine and should have no problem with oil that's a little older. If you're really worried about it, maybe run a slightly shorter interval.

6 quarts of PP 5W-30 SN with OEM Mahle filter. This is going to be my fill for the first part of winter!

    Recommendations for new volvo 2012 s60 t6 r-design

DAYUM! I am SO jealous! That is such a sweet car. Like everyone else has said, a good Euro oil would be great. GC 0W-30, M1 0W-40, Pennzoil 5W-40.

Bottom line: Why not just buy a 5W-30?

    A 50/50 mix of 0W-30 and 10W-30 theoretically would give you 5W-30.

    Bye bye K&N...

Well my UOA came in for my Alaska trip and the silicon was a mere 6 ppm for the almost 9,000 miles of driving. I know since I don't have a UOA with the K&N, I can't really make a comparison. But I DO know, that the Amsoil Ea filter works very well...

    Mobil 1 10W-40 HM -- 8,793 miles -- Volvo V70XC

My dad bought the car new in April of 2000. It's almost always had synthetic, with a few fills here and there of dino and semi-syn. OCIs have always been kept to around 5 to 6,000 miles. I aqcuired the car in Fall of 08, and have been very meticulous in the maintenance. Always full syn changed...

    Mobil 1 10W-40 HM -- 8,793 miles -- Volvo V70XC

I refilled with 10W-40 HM, exactly what I used for this UOA. I haven't added the moly, and I don't think I will. I've gone about 1500 miles so far on the new oil, but I've also had some very severe mountain driving: steep grades in 100+ degree weather. Without the mountains, I've still done a...

    Mobil 1 10W-40 HM -- 8,793 miles -- Volvo V70XC

Most people are just surprised that I took my 165K+ car to Alaska and back with not a single mechanical issue.

    Mobil 1 10W-40 HM -- 8,793 miles -- Volvo V70XC

Hi all, Finally got the oil report for the oil I used over my road trip to Alaska. We covered nearly 9,000 miles. Here are some of the conditions: Mobil 1 10W-40 High Mileage (SN) Mahle cartridge filter (Volvo OEM) (check out my thread on the oil filter here) Amsoil Ea dry cone filter. Lubro...

Mobil 1 High Mileage 10w40 VOA

I'm expecting my UOA for this oil (9,000 mile road trip run) anytime now. I made sure to grab the SN stuff, so we shall see how it held up! I'm really hoping it's still as good as before.

Mahle (Volvo OEM) Alaska Road Trip - 9,000 Miles

Wow! That's really interesting. Especially considering I bought my filters by the case and only paid $4.50 for each individual one. Makes you think a little... people pay $10+ for the metal spin-on filters that they run for sometimes as little as 3,000 miles. These are cheaper and obviously can...

Mahle (Volvo OEM) Alaska Road Trip - 9,000 Miles

I changed my oil and filter after my flawless road trip up to Alaska and back. I ran the Mobil 1 10W-40 High Mileage and this filter for just under 9,000 miles. I've sent the oil to be analyzed, but I did take some pics of the filter. This filter is the OEM cartridge filter for this car...

    Oil for the Alcan!

This car has been in the family since it was new, and yeah, it's had its fair share of weird problems, but hey it's a Volvo! I'm from San Diego, even bigger weather difference! Honestly though, I'd do anything to move to Alaska. I'm the sort of person who seeks out a winter storm just so I can...

    Bye bye K&N...

I just got back from my road trip to Alaska! Prior to the OCI for the road trip, I changed the filter to the Amsoil Ea cone. I drove it pretty hard to try and get any dust in the intake sucked into that oil. I then changed the oil, and proceeded to drive almost 9,000 miles up to Anchorage...

    Oil for the Alcan!

WOW! What a trip that was. The Canadian Yukon is incredible, as is all of Alaska. I've absolutely made it my goal to live in Alaska someday... and I can say that confidently having been there during the winter at one point as well! Now to the good stuff, since after all this is an oil forum! I...

    Bye bye K&N...

I've had my Amsoil Ea filter in for 1000 miles now. It sounds just as cool as the K&N, but I'm confident it filters better. There are no holes that you can see in it when put up to a light. My next (and first) UOA will be a good indicator of how it's working I think.I've got a 9,000 mile road...

    Bye bye K&N...

Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed. I guess I should have known, but sometimes you just gotta try these things out for yourself. I figured the increases in silicon and "dust" in the engine could probably be tracked back to the K&N, but I never imagined that I'd be able to wipe that amount of dust off...

    Bye bye K&N...

The K&N that I have is the 3" clamp-on style, and it attaches directly to my 3" MAF. There is no way that any dust could work itself in between the filter and MAF. It's got a large worm gear hose clamp that goes on very tight. The outlet of the MAF is attached to the aftermarket silicone/metal...
