How long does it take for the transmission fluid to get down to ambient temp in your experience?

Are we over exaggerating the perfect ATF fluid level? thermal expansion seems to think we are

...meaning the correct level is critical unlike engine oil But agree with everyone. I do not think anyone who is on this discussion, by the very nature of it, would get the level outside of a safe range.

Are we over exaggerating the perfect ATF fluid level? thermal expansion seems to think we are

I "played around" with the dipstick level in a 2004 Volvo XC 70 and estimated the range between maximum and minimum was less than 100 mls.

Are we over exaggerating the perfect ATF fluid level? thermal expansion seems to think we are

The exact level is obviously important. This is how Toyota suggest you check it : In my opinion, start draining as soon as the temperature range is reached and finish draining by the time the upper range is reached would give you the near perfect desired level. Best achieved by getting as get...

    Aisin TF-80SC 6-speed automatic transmission

So I visited the three major transmission specialists in my area. Two of them would use Valvoline MaxLife if they were to service or recondition a TF 80SC The other would use a Fuchs oil ( Titan ATF 6400)

    Aisin TF-80SC 6-speed automatic transmission

Ignorance is bliss! I also have an older XC 70 with 180K+ miles and have never reset the counter despite multiple fluid exchanges. I was not aware it was needed for the AW-55. The current car 2013XC 70 3.2 was serviced about 5 months and less than 10K with Valvoline Max-Life. It's running...

    Aisin TF-80SC 6-speed automatic transmission

Why would changing fluid cause rough shifting?

    Aisin TF-80SC 6-speed automatic transmission

I think not resetting the counter is equivalent to not resetting the service reminder after an oil change. May eventually get a fault code but no damage will result if not done. Resetting the adaptation only required if the transmission or one of its components has been changed

    Aisin TF-80SC 6-speed automatic transmission

Hello YZJB The adaptives don't need to be reset unless parts in the transmission have been changed or you are trying to correct some fault in the transmission. The fluid counter measures the number of times the transmission fluid temperature exceeds a set value and sets a code indicating a need...

    Aisin TF-80SC 6-speed automatic transmission

Thank you. Just got some Toyota WS fluid to supplement the 4L Volvo fluid I purchased. Will be doing a flush of the current Valvoline Max Life in the next few weeks.

Got it. What are thoughts on Multi-transmission fluids? These are synthetics but they do seem too good to be true. In reality that is what most transmission shops use. Currently in the car is Valvoline Maxlife ATF See 28.28/40.42 See 30:11/1:18

    Aisin TF-80SC 6-speed automatic transmission

Great Toyota WS it is. The manual states AW-1. Not sure what this is. And what is JWS2234? Neither Volvo nor Toyota WS bottles mention either. Hard to find info aside from forum posts.

    Aisin TF-80SC 6-speed automatic transmission

Hello, 2013 XC 70 3.2 in Australia. Aisin WS oil not marketed here. Volvo ATF prohibitively expansive ($190 for 4L) Seems most Volvos are being serviced with Multi-Veichle ATF Was considering using Toyota WS ATF. Is this the correct oil???

    Volvo XC70 Oil Recommedation

Why do you think Volvo is recommending 0-30 in Australia vs 5-30 in the US? 0-30 ACEA A5 is a very rare and expensive oil in Australia. Not sure I can afford it. Isn't Mobil 1 0-40 ( a thin 40 almost 30 ) closer to the recommended viscosity ?

    Volvo XC70 Oil Recommedation

Ok, Thanks I do not believe A5/B5 and MB229.5 are compatible. This is my evaluation so far: 3.2-liter Volvo B6324S5 produced from 2010 to 2016. No changes made in the bearings during production run despite changes in viscosity advice. Full SAPS oil allowed as no need to protect particulate...

    Volvo XC70 Oil Recommedation

Hello Thanks. Confusing as usual. Had a look at the car manual and the spec for Australia calls for 0-30 ACEA A5/B5 only. Oil choices here are very very limited. To go EXACT SPEC there are only 2 choices which are easily available : Penrite ( a local oil manufacturer ) or Liqui Moly at $140 US...

    Volvo XC70 Oil Recommedation

Hello Currently in Australia 2013 XC 70 3.2 Engine (B6324S5) Manual says 5-30 ACEA A5B5 Is A5/B5 a "compromise" spec or is the engine designed for this oil? I am leaning toward Mobil 1 0-40 for maximum protection and engine longevity. Are there any downsides? ( such as damaging catalytic...
