when one bring a car to the dealer for 1st oil

Modern engines have thinner piston rings for efficiency reasons but tend to consume more oil as a result. The extra 1/8th of an inch that this adds to the level in 15 minutes is not significant and no shop will waste their time on this. This was written for owners who check their own oil in...

    Nokian entyres: how are they?

I got them about a year ago for my Mazda 6. I think they are fine/average for all seasons. The compound could be a little softer... at the rate mine are wearing, I'll get at least 80k miles out of them.

Looking for a reliable and easy maintenance car

I would go for the Camry. A Toyota port injected engine and a conventional 6 speed A/T combo will go for many miles.

    Metal shavings in oil filter

Came across this post on Toyota Highlander forums. It was my understanding that blocks and parts are washed from machining and even new engines should not have any shavings visible to the naked eye. Is this normal? Didn't KIA/Hyundai have extended engine warranties due to this...

Trans shift quality change after filter install

Sorry, I should have clarified "right away" as in next morning. I changed the filter in the evening after I got home from work, checked for leaks, went for for a short test drive and did not notice any difference as the trans was still hot. Drove back, checked for leaks and parked for the...

Trans shift quality change after filter install

Recently added a magnefine inline filter to 2010 Mazda 6 2.5L 5 A/T FNR5 transmission. Right away, on cold mornings 1 to 2 to 3 shift smoothed out significantly as it is normally when warm. Trans fluid is changed regularly. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

    Fram Ultra XG8A - 3 OCI & 25,000 miiles - Cut Open

The gasket was fine, I inspected it every OCI. At the bottom of the can there was gritty residue which makes me wonder if some of it made it back into the engine when the filter went into bypass mode. The residue at the bottom did not appear to be metallic. The car burned about 1 quart every...

Oil filter with multiple oil changes

After my experience I am planning on changing the filter every OCI. I just posted thread with a cut open 25k mile/3 OCI Fram Ultra. At the bottom of the can there was gritty residue which makes me wonder if some of it made it back into the engine when the filter goes into bypass mode. Link

    Fram Ultra XG8A - 3 OCI & 25,000 miiles - Cut Open

Nothing wrong with it that I can see. I just ripped it open to show the metal mesh and 2 layers of synthetic media. The black/brown contrast of the media shows how much dirt it is holding. On a side note, I have not used synthetic oil in this car in a while 50k miles or so. 125k on ODO at this...

    Fram Ultra XG8A - 3 OCI & 25,000 miiles - Cut Open

This is from a 2010 Mazda 6 2.5L (Non-Skyactive) 25k miles on the filter, 3 oil changes. The oil filter was drained and re-filled with clean oil during each OCI. Oil used - M1 HM 10w-30. The recommended filter size is 3614. However, 3600 and XG8A fit just fine - same gasket OD and bypass...

Transmission wont lock TC when using cruise contro

Nope, it will unlock and stay unlocked until either, cruise control is turn off, increase speed to 70 or keep it between 40-50. So between 50-70 cruising speeds it will lock up just fine, as long as i don't use CC. I found a thread on a mazda forum with similar issues, and the dealer agreed that...

Car: 2010 Mazda 6, 2.5L 5AT-uses Mercon V fluid When driving at hwy speeds, TC locks up just fine when not using the cruise control regardless of weather going on flat level road or with a slight grade. However, TC will unlock and RPMs jump by about 200-300 as soon as I engage the cruise...
