From what I understand, GC is a high 30 weight oil (high end of 30) while Mobil1 5w-30 is a light 30 weight oil (low end of 30).
That could explain the difference in MPG.
I have also recently switched. The wife is not liking my new hobby too much but she understands that this is better oil.
I first went to the closest AutoZone (across state line) and found 12 bottles of 04 (green) and 05 (gold) about a month ago.
Two weeks ago I went back and found a 12 more...
I have an update:
2 weeks after my stealership replaced the coolant to the original Toyota red fluid, I was adding windshield washer fluid and noticed that the coolant reservoir was dry.
I know that it was full when I picked the car up. I had no idea if those morons forgot to close the...
Well,
I finally got around calling Toyota HQ and created a case with them. I explained them what happened and asked them to let me know if there was a difference between the 2 fluids (green and red). If there was, I would like to have the fluid changed.
They told me that someone from Toyota HQ...
Thanks all,
You confirmed my suspicion. I will call Toyota HQ to see if I can get something on writing to show the stealership. I know that if I just go in, they will try to talk me out of it and not change it.
I recently took my 2004 Corolla for a 30K change of fluids (oil, manual transmission and coolant).
What I noticed when I picked it up is that they put green coolant fluid even though it came with red fluid from the factory.
When I went back to the service desk to ask them why they did that...
Hello all,
I have a 04 Toyota Corolla. Currently my plan is to run Mobil1 10w-30 for the summer and Mobil1 5w-30 for the winter @ 5k miles OCI.
I was surfing around and I found that Toyota recommends 20w-50 for the Corolla down in Chile (South America).
I was wondering if that could be better...
Does that mean that that is the ONLY oil to be used?
What does Toyota recommend in other countries? The same 5w-30?
I just want the best protection for my engine since I wnat to keep this car until it dies.

I was just wondering...
Would Mobil 1 0w-30 be better than 5w-30 for the winter?
Would Mobil 1 0w-40 be too thick for the summer months?
I keep reading more and more on here (and caring more and more about what oil I use) about M1 0w-30 and German Castrol (GC) 0w-30 that makes me wonder...
Hi all,
I went to BJ's the other day and I saw that they were selling ESSO 10w-30 oil right next to the Mobil 1 that I use.
I was wondering if anyone had any information on this oil. I couldn't get any info from the box in which the oil comes in.
I even tried to do a search for ESSO oil in...
