I use to use Techron Concentrate Plus due to the 50% PEA content. On the new MSDS for Techron Concentrate Plus, it has no mention of PEA. Does Techron Concentrate Plus still have PEA in it and if so what percentage?

Thank you.

Response:

Thank you for contacting Chevron Consumer Connection Center regarding your inquiry about Techron Concentrate Plus. We have forwarded your email to Fueltek for review and they will respond to you with the information you need. If you want to follow-up or speak directly with our product engineers, you may contact fueltek at 1-510-242-5357. They are readily available to assist you with your concern.

Thank you again for taking the time to write to us. We appreciate the opportunity you have given us to respond.

Sincerely,
Angelo Manguray

After this I called the fueltek line and asked them about the PEA. They guy on the other end was extremely helpful. I asked him if techron still has PEA in it, his response was: The main component in techron, is PEA, techron is chevron's trade name for PEA. He could not tell me the concentration % due to legal and trade secrets but he could say that the concentration CAN NOT be beat by any other product available today and they did not reduce the amount of PEA in it. He said they also boast no other PEA cleaner on the market can beat techron when it comes to cleaning.

I already knew this but he said the msds is a safety data sheet and is not meant to be used for any product specification.

So my understanding from that conversation with the CSR you spoke with is that the concentration SHOULD still be at LEAST 50% PEA concentration, because Red Line FS-1 has about the same concentration around 50%.

I'll be interesting in hearing what written response is from their fueltek department since if they put it in writing it MUST be accurate. I'll be subscribed to this thread.

I wish you would have asked them why the suddenly stopped advertising PEA and concentration in their consumer advertising and on their website last year.

I thought the old MSDS sheet said 30 to 40%.

The concentration really doesn't matter if the size of the bottle is different... ie... if Techron is 30% in a 12 ounce container or RedLine is 60% in a 6 ounce container which I what I would assume. The bottles treat xxx gallons either way as well. The need for a carrier I don't understand, but I don't pretend to either.

Good news because Techron is one of the few additives that works!

Wonder if the trade secret "techron" need not be listed, so what you see is relative percentages of the balance.

It's easy to claim something on the phone.

They just need to tell us the exact PEA percentage so we can make an informed choice.

If you want to be sure what you're getting, then buy Redline.

If you trust Techron, then even if it has 30% PEA, the current Autozone 2 for 1 @ $7.99 should give you more PEA per $ than Redline.

If you trust Gumout's claim that they treat 21 gallons / 35 gallons for All In One, and that this is a comparable result to Techron's claim of treating 12/15/21 gallons, then you get the same, if not more, cleaning at their regular Walmart price as you do with Techron on offer at Autozone. Ie 3 x 12oz Techron at Autozone costs $12 equivalent and treats 36 gallons. 1 x Gumout All In One costs $8 at Walmart and treats 35 gallons.

In any case, I've found a cheap Chevron station so my need for these additives has gone down. I'll try to make sure I use Chevron gas, and then pick up any of the PEA additives when they are on sale and use them once a year.

3M Max Strength Fuel System Cleaner PN 08814 has 30-60% PEA, 11 oz bottle so they claim to be better than that.

VOLK06,

Great news. Thanks for contacting Chevron and informing the board of your findings. I've been using Chevron Techron Fuel system cleaner or the Old, non concentrated, Gumout/Regane Fuel system cleaner in my mix with TC-W3 at each fill up. I add 3 ounces to each 15 gallons of gasoline since Chevron/Texaco is not available in my market. Chevron Techron Fuel System Cleaner contains 10X the amount of Techron...PEA....than the Chevron/Texaco gasoline at the pump. So my low dose at every fill up of no-name generic stations helps keep the gasoline flowing clean.

I'm glad to hear that there are no changes to the Chevron Techron % of PEA in the treatment. The Older version of Gumout/Regane that I use is the SOPUS product before it was sold off. I know there is a load of PEA in that cleaner and will continue using both Chevron and the Older Gumout Regane for my fill ups.

Thanks again VOLK 06

What else is he going to say? Yep sure Redline is better but ours is close?
Claims over the phone are 100% worthless IMHO.

Well is that because in your "IMHO", aren't you try to sell and promote Hurst injector cleaning on here? Of course your going to say that... IMHO. lol

Also, I believe you got your data from an older msds than the one currently available.

If memory serves me right, I remember reading a post from a member who contacted Chevron about the concentration of PEA, (Techron), in their gasoline and the concentrated fuel system cleaner.

The response from Chevron was that the Chevron Techron Fuel System cleaner had a concentration 10X of what was in their gasoline at the pump.

So, based on this information, along with the unavailability of Chevron or Texaco gasoline in my market area....I add 3 ounces of Chevron Techron and 3 ounces of TC-W3 to about 15 gallons of "Generic Mom and Pop" gasoline at each fill up.

So far....it works for me.

It strongly seems that there is Techron in Chevron, and a good amount.
You like Redline? Use it!

Without knowing which PEA(s) is used by each supplier and without knowing the relative effectiveness of the particular PEAs, knowing the percentage is irrelevant. If you had a PEA that was twice as effective as another, another brand could have double the amount of PEA and still not have a superior product.

It is similar for the different compounds of moly and zinc in motor oil.

Techron may work, but in my 15 years of using many of these cleaners, Redline SI-1 and BG44K show results quicker and seem to be better products... Some cleaners do not show the amount of PEA but the results do show that PEA or something similar is definately in Redline and BG44K.

If you read every post i ever made i rarely push my business even though i have every right to do so.
I use redline because it works and have recommended its use before tearing injectors out.
I like the fact they publish the amount of PEA, i know what i'm buying not what so guy told me on the phone.
