Yeah but can that Mustang get 40+ miles per gallon ? Just kidding. But seriously, both are great cars.... but intended for VERY different purposes. I'm seriously considering doing a 10K UOA on Supertech 5w20 just for fun.

Is that the engine from the SI? I heard it works quite well!
Nope, I'm just talking about the 1.8 liter engine in the base model (140hp, 128 ft*lb). Ahhhh, K, you just doing HP and lb-ft per litre? 'stang is: HP: 65.22HP/L TQ: 69.56lb-ft/L Civic is: HP: 77.78HP/L TQ: 71.11lb-ft/L Of course the big picture here is that we are still comparing a 140HP car with 128lb-ft to a 300HP one with 320lb-ft Silly comparision. But if you must. Look at S2000 F20C, and BMW M5 V10. Both around 110-120hp/L Anyway, back on topic. Nice run! I guess no plans to switch to synthetic eh?

Imagine the low maintenance on Honda small 4 cylinder engines, 10k miles with conventional oil and oil filter on second oil change. But most Honda owners change oil at 5k or less and filter at every oil change. While this is true, most people would probably fall under the 'severe' category, which is 5k miles, or 8k kms.. 'normal' essentially is people who drive almost all highway all the time.

My only point w/ the HP and torque per liter factoid was as a sort of refutation to the statement that the engines are low power and low torque. They are, in absolute terms, but for the engine's size, the output is relatively high. Of course the comparison isn't all that meaningful.
Nope, no plans to switch to synthetic :) I'm going to stick to YB for a few OCIs. No reason not to.

In an engine w/ more cylinders, the forces are spread over more parts. Durability should be a given in the V8.

Yes, but we weren't comparing Unicorn engines here, these are normal production engines from regular cars. Though I will agree the comparison is indeed somewhat silly; the cars are designed for two completely different demographics.

Another great run from a honda 4 cyl..........what a surprise. I own an 06 civic that has ~58k. I must admit to being a big civic fan. When any other mfg can produce a car at this price and size that is built as well as this one is..........and cruises at 75-80 as easy as any car(including V6/8) I have owned.......while getting ~40 mpg...........and is as reliable as the sun rising in the east.....then I will buy it.
Sometimes plain and simple is best.

Nice numbers for this run on dino. Good to see someone push the mileage status quo with conventional oil.
I used to run my factory Toyota filter for 2 OCs, never had any problems. It was a side mount, and most of the oil drained out of it when dumping the oil. Basically, it was just me being lazy more than anything else.
In your case, I'm not sure that I wouldn't have taken the filter off and drained it before re-using it, although it's probably fairly small and doesn't hold that much oil anyway.
You might consider a blended oil, many good ones for not much more than YB.
Motorcraft is a blended oil, he used it in his earlier report. This UOA proved that regular Pennzoil worked better than Motorcraft Syn Blend for this car.

The Japanese are experts at small powerful and very long lasting engines. That's the reason they don't have to go begging to the taxpayer for our taxes - like those corporate welfare bums GM Chrysler and Ford. The Japanese automakers already received millions of dollars in incentives from state governments to build plants in this country. Like it or not, the government is already in the auto business.

You must have an auto trans, right? :) With the MT the engine is running 3500 RPM at 75-80 MPH and I don't think I'm getting 35 mpg at that speed. Maybe with a tailwind and non-E10 gas. I've been able to get about 43 mpg on the (admittedly hilly) drive between here and LA, but I had to go about 60 mph for it.
