Thickest 20w oils?

They're all pretty thick from what I've seen. A 20W oil is between 5.6 and 9.3 cSt, and most of the ones I've seen have been above 8.3

I'm bored so I decided to pull up a few product data sheets. This is all in cSt at 100C.

Cenex Maxtron 5W-20 - 8.7 cSt
Mobil 1 5W-20 Extended Performance - 8.9 cSt
Mobil 1 0W-20 advanced fuel economy - 8.6 cSt
Mobil 1 5W-20 - 8.8 cSt
Mobil Clean 7500 5W-20 - 8.9 cSt
Mobil Clean 5000 5W-20 - 8.5 cSt
Valvoline Synpower old formulation 0W-20 - 8.65 cSt
Valvoline Synpower new formulation 0W-20 - 8.8 cSt
Valvoline Synpower old and new formulation 5W-20 - 8.65 cSt
Valvoline Maxlife 5W-20 - 8.8 cSt
Valvoline DuraBlend 5W-20 - 8.38 cSt
Valvoline Premium Conventional/All Climate - 8.7 cSt
Pennzoil Platinum 0W-20 - 8.43 cSt
Pennzoil Platinum 5W-20 - 8.46 cSt
Pennzoil conventional 5W-20 - 8.4 cSt
Pennzoil Truck, SUV and Minivan 5W-20 - 8.3 cSt
Castrol GTX 5W-20 - 9.1 cSt
Castrol Syntec Blend 5W-20 - 9.1 cSt
Castrol Syntec 5W-20 - 9.0 cSt
Castrol Syntec 0W-20 - 8.8 cSt
Amsoil 0W-20 ASM - 9.0 cSt
Amsoil 5W-20 XL - 8.5 cSt

Pennzoil HM 5W20 sounds good, but like their 0W20 it's impossible to find anywhere I shop.

chevrofreak, thanks for the link!

demar, I was lucky to find (er..my wife found, then called me if I wanted them) PZ 5w-20 HM at WM some months ago for $2.00/qt as a close out. Snagged a dozen of them. :D

Thanks. The engine on my '08 4.7 is louder than I'd like, and I think this is because the [censored] CAFE-dictated 5w20 spec oil. I'd be running Delo 15w40 if it weren't for the lifetime powertrain warranty.

I am sure you could run a high quality 5W-30 and still be in compliance for your warranty. Maybe even a 10W-30.

Even my little 2.3l Mazda is louder with 20 in it. 30 is better, but GC has been best, by far, as it is a thick 30.

Lots of flack running a thick 30 in a car spec'd for 20. Heck, after the warranty is over, I may try a 40.

I think even a 15w40 HDEO would be okay in Central CA (25deg F - 110 deg f), but it specifically states in the warranty booklet than any "unauthorized" fluids would void the LPT warranty and the owners' manual states that I can ONLY use 5w20 that conforms to MS-6395 (for US market).

Dont want to give them any reason to void the warranty in a truck that sees 40k+ miles per year.

Red Line 5W-20 is 9.1 at 100 C and has a HTHS that is greater than many 30 grade oils at 150 C. I used it with good oil analysis results in the Lambo and Maybach 57s. But now I use Renewable Lubricants Incorporated 0W-20 instead. I use 0W-30 RLI in the Enzo now as well. This engine calls for the Shell 10W-60 Helix Ultra Racing oil. I do not however race the cars.
