Gosh. Lots of weird looking words up in there, like "schuhplattler". Who uses that word in normal conversation? And why are they just throwing German words out there? Might as well ask the kid to spell out "luftnachrichtenhelferin"
The second place speller was a Canadian kid. He lost 'cause he kept trying to spell color as COLOUR and harbor as HARBOUR.
He left with the second place CHEQUE as fruits of his LABOUR ....
After that poor New Zealand kid got grilled, they admitted that if they are going to invite people from other countries, they will have to put more effort into understanding accents and different spelling.
That was farcical. It's been played a few times. Even though the Kiwi accent is different it was clear as day what the kid ws saying. Best keep it to a domestic competition me thinks. Also Shannow is correct diferent countries spell the same word different ways in English and all are correct.
