Not that I could tell by looking through the oil fill. The black stuff was a crusty finish that probably would have come off with solvent and a plastic brush, but I didn't want to disturb it. The material in the oil filters was similar, a sort of black, gritty stuff.
The valve cover had one cleanish strip where the timing chain slung oil onto it. I don't know if that was because of the ARx, or just the fact of constant oil spray. I know the Rx did two things--cleaned black deposits off the dipstick, and stopped a leak around the manual transaxle shift linkage.
No such luck with oil consumption. It was using a quart every fillup by the time I got rid of it. Carmax gave me $500 as a trade-in.
