Assuming both brands are made in the US, I don't know if buying American brand and pay them 30% more so that they can return 20% to the economy (+10% going to Bermuda or Switzerland) is better than buying a Foreign brand and pocket the 30% myself.

Goodyear Integrity was/is 1 of the worse tire money can buy and it wasn't cheap either.

Looking at consumer survey of Grand Touring All-Season Tires for Size 205/65-16 on Tirerack you find the top 2 are expensive tires: Michelin Premier A/S at $125 and Continental PureContact with EcoPlus Technology at $103, next is General AltiMAX RT43 (H- or V-Speed Rated) at $83. So your statement "Pay cheap price, get cheap tire." is correct so far.

On the same list, Bridgestone Ecopia EP422 Plus (H- or V-Speed Rated) at $103 is 25th place and Continental ContiProContact at $124 is 27th place.

As you see most consumers think that General AltiMAX RT43 is much better than Bridgestone Ecopia EP422 Plus and Continental ContiProContact, and much lower price too.

Also, this list showed that not all tires from a reputable company are good either, Continental has 1 near the top of the list and 1 near the bottom of the list.

So, if you do some researches you may find better products for less money. They call this type of person "Wise Shopper".
