I typically resort to using aftermarket camber adjusting bolts commonly avail from Moog (Magna), instead of playing from the strut plate side.
FYI: if suspension is stock (OEM including factory OE struts), and provided that the car hasn't been involved in any frontal accidents that would have altered the suspension/chassis geometry, etc. replacing worn OE struts with factory OE replacements normally would fall within the same factory spec'ed camber range, so no need to use aftermarket camber adjustment add-ons as a result.
That's the precision/accuracy of modern automated or semi-automated automobile manufacturing.
