Replacing Hood Struts - Removing from Mount

I bought new hood struts for my Camry, but couldn't get them off of the old mount. The OE struts don't have that clip on the back that releases tension like the new ones. I tried to hammer them off while it was bolted to the car but they wouldn't pop off. I decided to unbolt the mounts for now.

I'm wondering if I should just cut the old strut off with my grinder and a cut off wheel. Any thoughts?

You probably have the wrong part or incompatible part.

The new strut should've come with a replacement ball that you can bolt on.
On the other end, it should've come with a new bracket thingy.

Yep I've had to cut them off a Toyota before.

Were the parts you ordered cheaper than the strongarms?

Puzzled over if you saved any money by doing things the hard way, or was it just an parts f-up.
