Just recently, we started getting Castrol GTX HM bottles with new labels and design on them at my store.

The wording on the back now says (paraphrasing) "...Phosphorus is a know catalyst poison, so to reduce damage to emissions systems, new GTX HM has reduced levels of phosphorus, below industry mandated levels, without sacrificing engine protection..."

I find it interesting that Castrol is taking this route, when many other HM oils (QS, Mobil 1) deliberately use HIGHER levels of anti-wear additives as the route to protect older engines. I wonder just how low the phosphorus level on this oil is?

What do you think?

I think it's interesting, but a VOA could point the way forward or at least shine some light on it.

Check the pds for the HM oil. I think the zinc and phosphorous are the same levels as GTX. If the HM oil is supposed to preserve catalytic converters in older cars I would think It should have lower levels than GTX has.
