He will eventually sell it but hes busy. Hahahahaha
As someone said earlier, i'd guess it's just a matter of luck. Sometimes you get the good ones and other times you get a lemon.
I even have another close buddy that bought a brand new RAV4 (4 years ago, previous gen) and crashed because the brakes failed . . . all of this happened with the car having only 2K KILOMETERS and less than 2 months.

As of my experience with VAG vehicles. I've only owned 1 which is the current Audi A6 C7 in my sig. Can't comment on reliability since it's still pretty new and only has 19K Kilometers.
As for the BMW's, they've proven to be pretty reliable in my case BUT the maintenance can get expensive after a couple years since lots of parts wear out or die kinda early compared to Japanese cars.

Yup, luck certainly plays into it. I had such bad luck with a new 2000 accord, i vouched never to buy another honda vehicle again. My a4 was better by comparison, alas i know others' experiences were just the opposite.
