I posted the trailblazers filter yesterday, today I was able to get the oil changed on the STI.

BTW Walmart has Rotella T6 with a $5 mail in coupon, so its roughly $18 for a gallon.

Anyways, onto the picture.

05 Subaru STI
3000 miles on filter
Rotella T6

Oil changed at 3000 because the car is a toy so it isnt driven daily.

On this last picture and the one before it, you can see a little flap of material at the very end of the metal pleat (what's the correct name for that?) Other than that, the filter looked to be in a great shape.

Another "popper". Looks pretty good though, Purolator is generous with the amount of media they give you.

That's the metal crimp that hold the pleats together inside the filter housing/can

Well its nice to see that the media stayed together, too bad the endcap fell off..."non-issue" I know.

Looks very good although I prefer my endcaps to stay on thank you.

Has anyone paid attention the the miles on the Puro's with tears? Are they all filters run farther that the 3k this one was?

As always, thanks for cutting and posting!

The Classic I found a media tear in had ~5,000 miles on it. Used in a climate that was never below freezing. Used with oil weight specified for the engine (5w-30).

Looking at the date of your post Z, it was May of 2011---so this media tearing has been going on for almost 4 years----my how time flys---it's about time they should have addressed this -eh?

Going on longer than I realized.

I've used quite a few Classics in that time but I don't think I cut any of them.

I think I was the first guy here to report this issue and post up a photo. I never recalled any Purolator with torn media before I found the one I cut open.

I pulled the filter apart when I cut it open, was the end cap supposed to stay on with this model? Didn't seem like it was meant to.

^^^ The end caps are supposed to stay glued on tight and not pull off.
