Hi all.

When I am looking at various ACEA a5/B5 oils. It strikes me most of them are only API SL. The few exceptions are oils that are both rated ACEA a5/b5/c4

Are there a reason they are only rated API SL. And why is it ACEA c4 makes it API SN approved ?

Thanks :)
Søren

There are some A5/B5 oils that are SM or SN:

Motul 8100 Eco-clean C2 5w30: API SM
Fuchs Titan GT1 Pro C-2 5w30: API SM
Fuchs Titan SuperSyn 5w40: API SM
Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5w30: API SN
Millers XF Longlife C2 5w30: API SM
Amsoil Synthetic Signature Series (AZO) 0w30: API SN

The mobil and The Fuchs oils do not support The acea a5/b5. The amsoil is as far as I can see no approved but only meet or exceed, I might be wrong on that one though.

The rest of them are also C2. And not only a5/b5

Part of depends upon the fact that you're in Europe, where the API and ILSAC specs aren't as crucial. Something like regular M1 5w-30 here is A5/B5 and SN/GF-5. The average synthetic 5w-30 doesn't list the A5/B5 specification, and many that do list a rather dated version of it. Mobil 1 and Syntec tend to meet the current ACEA A5/B5 sequences.

Here the edge 5-30 is not a5/b5. The 0-30 is though. I guess is a lot about regional differences.

My mistake on the Mobil and Fuchs SuperSyn, those are noy A5/B5.

The Fuchs Titan GT1 Pro C2 is indeed A5/B5 as well as C2, I went back and checked.
