Amazon says it won't fit. Purolator website says it will fit. Amazon suggests Purolator synthetic PSL14612 and PSL10241 (the 10241 makes no sense to me, the PSL14612 does make sense if PL14612 fits). Purolator website doesn't mention synthetic version as option, just PureOne and classic.

Anyone know? I already own a new PL14612 that I originally bought for our other car, a 2010 Forester , however I also have ~6 Subaru blue OEM that I'm going to use up on that vehicle. Before I start the change in the spring, I'd like to ensure the new filter fits (obviously). This will be first change on my new Mazda , 2L Skyactiv "i".

The 10241 has a UNF-2B thread while the 14612 has a M20x1.5, so completely different there.

What engine code do you have? There are 5 different engine codes for the 2.0 engine. This is the thing that Amazon won't be able to distinguish, but something like Amsoil application guide will. If you have the engine code [7] you would be looking for a Wix 51348 style filter which is the same as the 10241. The following filters are cross referenced to the Wix 51348/Puro 10241.

If the L14612 fits the application, then the PL and PLS versions should also fit. The same goes for any purolator filter as far as i know, if one fits, then all of the same number should fit.

Looks like it depends on the VIN series number in the 8th digit/(place).

Vin # 8 (or #7) uses the 14612/6607 Puro/Fram size. Other letters F&G use the 10241/3614 size.

So check the eigth digit of your VIN to decide which size is correct. I suspect it's the 14612/6607 size.

Thanks guys. I think we are headed in right direction. According to Amsoil:
http://www.amsoil.com/products/vin_code_lookup.pdf

Its the 8th character, which is a P , the 9th character is an 8...sheesh.

So Purolator doesn't have a recommendation since P is not listed. 8 is listed though...

For P engine code Amsoil recommends:
"No Recommendations"
For 8 engine code:
EA15K12-EA

Not going to buy Amsoil oil/filter just using it to help find right filter, I short trip a lot, in cold, no extended OCI for me also under warranty still..

For Purolator filters...Still stuck...

Ok, I just found a youtube for the 'first time oil change for 2013 Mazda 3 Skyactiv 2.0L' which I won't link to because of language in video. But, the guy bought the 3614(10241) which mid-video he found out was the wrong filter. Then he went and purchased the correct 6607/14612.

Based on the yt, confident the 6607/14612 is correct.

Wouldn't be too upset at Purolator as even the Fram look up uses the VIN code number/letter but doesn't explain how to find it. As this is kind of new, the look up will get better with time.

Brand new Mazda oil filter from factory, no indicator.

Watched that as well. You are right, if Fram filter finder or Purolator told us how to tell 8 from F or G we''d know for certain. I guess I'll wing it with the 14612 I have on hand and see what happens.

Actually the Puro look up seems to be down right now, at least it is for me.

But, I found another 2.0L Skyactiv diy yt that showed the Mazda OEM filter part number(PE01-14-302), plugged it into the Fram xref look up, result 6607. PL14612 it is. No worries.

You should still consider Amsoil OE oil then. Low price, OEM interval. PC price gets it under $5/qt, case price lower.

Amsoil OE 0W-20 - Product Code OEZ

I would just go with the SkyActic OEM filter on a new engine until the 2d party manufactures get it sorted out. To nice an engine to Guess which filter will work IMO. Ed

I'm going to make a trip to the local dealer to see if they use/sell them. IIRC the sales guy said they use Castrol so not sure they will use OEM filters but I will check. Good advice, I use Subaru OEM filters on the other vehicle.

That is good to know. Looking like 14612/6607 is the prevailing thought.

I'd now say not only the prevailing thought, but the correct answer to the question first asked. There is now the OEM part listing number posted twice, once in my previous post here and once above. And, the OEM part number clearly crosses to the 6607/14612 and is listed as such on the Fram look up. In the Wix it is the 57002 (a new Wix filter application) which actually does list a P code as the same application as 7&8 Vin#.

Now if you choose the to use the OEM PE01-14-302 that's fine. But the spec'd aftermarket oil filters are the 6607/14612 and Wix 57002.
