filters!

I didn't know they were THAT popular.

The filters in question are
Purolator L15315/PL15315/PSL15315
Bosch 3412
Mann HU 819/x

The Bosch 3412 seems to be a reboxed Classic L15315.

Strangely enough, the PSL usually costs about $5 *less* than the P1, even though all of them are overpriced (cartridge filters shouldn't cost more than a spin-on and should actually be cheaper). The P1 has blue media.

The Mann filter is made in Spain. All the others are US-made.

My question is, with the likely low volume application it is, why do they make so many filters for it? I'm surprised Purolator and Bosch don't just rebox the Mann! Remember, Purolator is owned by Bosch and Mann.

Just Mann&Hummel now.

Not familiar with this specific cartridge but even in the spin on type there is overlap in filters using different branding. US made Mann spin on now basically a Puro Classic. Bosch Premium basically a P1. The PSL is synthetic so different than the other cellulose and blend filters.

And while cartridge filters 'shouldn't' cost more, 'relatively' low sales volume filter applications will raise the price. And in my experience, manufacturers will charge what the market will bear even with cartridges. Country of origin could also be related to application sales volume.

That said, now with Mann in sole ownership, things could change with Bosch filters manufactured in the US, or not. I would expect Purolator to maintain their different filter lines though. But only time will tell.

Mann is now being used as a fill in filter for some of the newer part numbers for Premium Guard/Parts Plus. They are in a Mann box with the revised part number on a sticker.

Bosch isn't making their own filters. They're just privately labeled by Purolator (though that can change and they might have several suppliers, depending on the model)...and Purolator is in a partnership with Mann.
