I believe throttle body cleaner is less likely to harm the plastics used for sealing the throttle plate in some throttle bodys.

Carburetor cleaner leaves an oily residue; TB doesn't.

most carb cleaners are not O2 sensor safe, and may be to strong (solvency) that it may melt certain throttle body's coating.

most throttle body cleaners that I'm aware of (esp. CRC) are both O2 sensor safe and does not strip coating inside the throttle body.
