Mechanic friend of mine is now working for Mercedes Benz and has access to their spec' oils.

Wants to know if he can use the Merc ATF 134 FE fluid in the transmission of his '07 Audi Q7?

Any thoughts?

Well Id refer back to the MB sheet number that it meets, and then look on the Bevo site from MB to see what other manufacturers' products are listed there and see if there are any fluids that can meet dual spec.

Not an exact analysis for sure, but it gets you some idea of what analogous fluids are...

Yes Titan ATF 4400 meets VW G 055 025. Not sure how that differs at all from VW 055 025 A2.

Doesn't seem to be any ATFs that meet both MB and either of the two VW spec's.

Thanks again.

Yes it doesn't seem to be usable, too light. It's for the latest 7-speed Merc's and is not even downward compatible for older MY cars.

It does, it is for current 7-speed and previous 5-speed AT. I have Shell ATF-134 in my 2000 E430.

ATF-134 is not the same as ATF-134 FE. Shell actually makes two fluids for that reason, 134 (meets MB spec 236.14) and 134 FE (meets MB spec 236.15).

The 134 FE fluid is for the newer 722.9 transmissions produced after June 2010. It is blue in color and it is not backwards compatible.

Thanks Pete. For some reason I didn't see the "FE" after ATF-134.
I'm a member of mbworld, I do login sometimes to get some info for my E430.

Guys, do you know of any ATF oil that is dual compatible to MB ATF 134 and VW 055 025 A2 or VW G 055 025?
And if not, do you know of any reason not to run MB ATF 134 in a VW spec'd application?

CATERHAM, I am not sure. I have not come across a single product that would mention both specs.

Regarding the VW 055 025 A2 spec, it looks like Mobil Super ATF 3309 meets it. It lists a number of other MFG specs, but MB 134 is not one of them:

I know Mobil has developed a separate product specifically for MB 134 application:

Still, it does not answer your question whether there are any reasons not to run ATF 134 in a VW trans.

Another point of reference: Amsoil. They list a product on their website for a VW 055 025 A2 application, but no suitable Amsoil product for MB ATF 134 (236.14) application. If they could get away with suggesting the same product for both, they probably would have.

Interestingly, they recommend their VW 055 025 A2 product for some older MB ATF specs such as 236.10...

Anyway, just throwing things out there. I know it doesn't really answer your question.

Thanks Pete.

MB ATF 134 is a fairly light oil with a KV100 of 6.5cSt vs 7.2cSt for the VW spec' oil, which is about 10% heavier.
So I would think my friend could use some MB ATF 134 but thicken it up to the viscosity of the spec' VW oil. One option would be adding 25% RL high temp' ATF, but I'm sure their are some cheaper heavy ATFs out their he couls use to blend instead.

Another option is to see if MB has their own heavier ATF to 134 for some older models and use that in part.

Thanks again.

Wolf's Head Universal Synthetic claims that their fluid meets both the NAG2/722.9 (W7A700 - Chrysler) Mercedes spec, the Shell ATF 3353 spec, and the VW G-055-025-A2.

BTW, the suffix on the VW spec of A2 just denotes the container size. A1 = 0.5L and A2 = 1.0L.
