The stock filter is a Kohler 12 050 01-S1. The Wix cross reference is a 51056 for that filter. I've read where some replacement filters will not screw on due to differences in housing size. Just checking to see if anyone has run the Wix on this particular application to make sure it fits before I buy one. Thanks,

As long as it's a direct x-ref'd filter, you'll be fine. The Kohler Courage single cylinder engines only allow for the factory sized oil filter because of the way the filter is tucked up against the block.
Courage V-twins are a different story. You could go right up to a FL400.

I'm using a FL400S equivalent (ST 3600?) on my 20 Hp courage single.
I believe the 20 and 17 Courage singles share the same block?
More filter, less money.

I owned a Courage 20hp V-twin. Plenty of room on them to run FL400's.

What's a real curiosity is that the whole series (SV590-SV620)

Appear to be the same engine with horsepower rated from 19-22 depending on model.
Of course the 17 Hp is an SV 530 which is also covered by the linked PDF above.
The 17 is smaller inside, but identical outside; I believe.

The linked thread should help. Currently running Napa Gold 1348 (got on sale) on 19hp Kohler Courage. Slightly longer than OEM Kohler, -01, same as the, -02. If it fits, least expensive way is Purolator Classic equivalent L10241 from Wally, $3.27.
