The manual recommends "Steiner fluid", but I noticed that Ventrac (which uses the same axles and pump) is now using hydro torz xl, sae 5w-30. The tractor has Sauer/Danfoss Series 15 pumps and motors. The trans axles are peerless 2600. The same sump is responsible for the drive train and hydraulic attachments. The local napa store now carries the Schaefers oils, and I am working on converting all my vehicals over.
I took a look through the thread and I have seen several recommendations for schaeffers 315, another product that caught my eye was 184 HTC Oil SAE 5W-30.
Im really not sure what oil to choose. Any help would be appreciated.

How much oil does it take? There are basically two types out there that I have seen, hydraulic fluid and hydraulic and tractor fluid. I would assume you tractor takes the latter. The demands of the fluid in your tractor are a lot less than that of your engine or a cars AT. How much is a 5 gallon container of Shaeffers?
