I have a 2010 Grand Caravan w/ the 4.0L engine. I noticed it recommends 10w30 oil which seems heavy to me. I am considering using M1 0W30 in it, I have read the packaging closely and it appears the 0W30 and even 0w20 meet the Chrysler warranty specifications. Would either of these work fine? Would it necessarily improve fuel economy using a 0 weight oil? The van has 2000 miles on it now, when would be the best time to drain the factory fill to start using the new oil?

i would go 5w30, 0w30 seems like kind of a stretch......and yes that is correct those engines call for 10w30, and it's one of if not the last engines i know of to use it

I have a 2010 Grand Caravan with the 3.8 liter, it calls for 5w-20 with 6 month/6,000 mile oci's. I wonder why the 4.0 liter calls for 10w-30, seems very strange to me, you would think 5w-30 at least for the cold start protection.

The Dodge/Chrysler 4.0 used in the Caravan, Pacifics, Nitro is based off the 3.5L in the Charger/Magnum/300/Avenger/Sebring/etc.... and they all spec the 10w30.

I'd just stick with the 10w30 spec unless you are in a cold climate or your other vehicles require the 5w30. If so, then maybe keep it all 5w30 to keep your stash simple.
