Oil change for winter? 10w30 vs. 5w40

Yeah, a 5W30 (if a CJ4 5W30 was available) would likely be down in the 5000-5500 Dynamic Viscosity range. It's the 40 grade that pulls the number up a little vs a 30 grade, despite the low W number. You might look at other brands and find a slightly lower Dynamic Viscosity spec in a 5W40 (be sure to compare the ASTM test numbers to make sure you are comparing apples to apples) but it won't likely be by much.

You might just save that oil for the next change. You can't be an true member in good standing of BITOG unless you have an oil stash! ( ;< ). Oil prices are always going up anyway, so you'd likely pay more later. Or, you could exchange it for some 10W30 T5.
