I have a '97 Jaguar XK8 with 107,000 miles on it. While I am doing the mandatory cam chain tensioner upgrade

I think I should also flush and refill the ATF. These are supposedly "permanent". Yeah, right. They also told people to change their oil only every 10,000 miles. Uh huh.

Anyway, Jaguar demands I use only their "Esso ATF LT 71141", which is extremely expensive. Surely there must be a substitute that will work properly and won't damage the "ZF 5HP 24 E" tranny. Anyone know what I can safely use?

Maxlife ATF used to list that spec. on the bottle (I think), but it no longer appears in the data on Valvoline's website.

Hi,
that Esso specification still lives on. It is also a requirement in Porsche (ZF) Tiptronic transmissions

I would only use that Fluid if I was you - contact Esso for a source. I would NOT flush the transmission - simply change the filter

ZF clutch packs and etc are not compatible with many other Fluids
