would a thick or thin 30 wt. make any real difference in day to day life?

I look at the viscosity to help fine tune oil selection. Some 5W-30's are thin and some are thick.... if I want better mileage I might look at thin, or I feel the engine needs more protection then thick might be better.

They must be talking about HTHS

I posted this before... Motul's Specific LL-01 oil has become X-Max 5w-30. Same specs (HTHS is 3.5), but now certified to MB 229.3 - 229.5 and VW 502.00 - 505.00 as well.

I'm a newby.

What does HTHS stand for, is it better that the number is higher........or lower?

Thanks

High Temperature High Shear tells us how the oil will behave at temperature mostly in the bearings. Thicker is better, IMHO though mpg may suffer a little.

ACEA A3 ratings require HTHS of 3.5 or greater.
