2002 Saturn SL2,

8.98 gallons, 404 miles,
87 no lead Farm Fresh grocery 10% ethanol

44 MPG, 99% highway at 69 MPH...

Last year I sold my 1997 Camry 2.2L automatic with 197k miles. I had it for 8 months and 12k miles.

Best tank was going 60-65 for 220 miles and it got 36.72 mpg. I could have squeaked out more too!

I then took it on a 3,000 mile trip to Montana from Phoenix which is quite mountainous. With A/C on and cruise control set to 80 mph (floored on hills), it averaged 33 mpg.

On my Ranger I have been getting 18.7 commuting to work and back. It's 60 miles of freeway but I have some long hills on the way home. First tank in the Jeep was 18.2 but that was all around town. I expect to get a little better out on the road.

My beater is a 95 VW Polo 1.6 8v Mono-point inj. that has done more than 233000 km.
It does just below 7L/100 km average - that's a little more than 40 mpg us. And I don't drive slow!

At 90 km/h steady speed it can do 5L/100 km (56mpg)

Personally I'm surprised that it does so well considering it is such and old car / old engine construction

When my 99 Altima 4-banger got rearendedtotaled @ 195k miles in '12, it was getting 32mph on the highway @ 70mph....
My current ride, 11-yr old Camry I4 gets 34 on the highway.
The improved MPG pays the interest on the loan for the Camry.

Believe it or not, 34+ mpg on freeway in a 15 year old 4.0 I6 with a 4 speed auto in a 15 foot long sedan.
At the time it was the most economical car/engine on the planet larger than 3.5 liters! It's still a lot better on fuel than most brand new v6s and even some 4 cylinders I've driven on the highway but she is a little thirstier round the city

The Sable was getting anywhere between 20 and 30 mpg. 20 in the winter with warmups, 30 in the summer with the AC off.

Last tank on the Windstar was 18 mpg.

The Aerostar gets 18-22mpg.

The F150 has been getting 21-22 mpg. The mpg jumped up a bit with the new exhaust, including a new catalytic converter.

The new used 2002 Focus wagon is getting 30 mpg. Been driving that a lot lately, 8-10 mpg better than everything else.

Last week, my 22 year old SL2 got 39 miles per gallon on a 300+ mile road trip. Oil is a mix of mostly Mobil 1 TDT with some Mobil 1 HM 5w-20 mixed in.

You're lucky, those are one of my favourite engines of all time! Possibly the most reliable too!

99 Grand Caravan 200,000 miles, 28 mpg at 60 mph expressway. 14 mpg around town.
I don't think real mileage has improved much over the past 20 years, manufacturers have just learned how to play to the epa tests.

My Caprice with 10psi on the L67 gets about 21.5 (per US gal).

Admittedly sucks premium, but I love it.

I have two grand Marquis one is eight years old the other 17(but has less miles)... They each get 26 highway, at least last I checked which hasn't been lately(both have been on approx 1000mi trips within the last six weeks)... The '96 F-150 gets .... uhhh well I dunno, never checked it... It's no doubt better than the '93 Lighting that got around 18 highway...

The Supercharged '03 Marauder got 22 if I used the 10.5 psi boost sparingly, but with 430Hp at tires wasn't often...

The '01 Taurus (was built in 2000!!!!) would get 30MPG on the highway easily. If I kept it at 60-65 it would get 34MPG. Daily driving was 22, The Vulcan engine really struggled to move around the Taurus.

My Cherokee, before modified, could get 18 daily driving and 22 on the highway. Now it's a flat 14.
