What happened to graphite ?

What happened to graphite being used as a motor oil additive? I remember Arco using it in the '80s in one of their motor oils but I do not remember it being used anywhere else. I just checked and Arco is out of the motor oil business. I guess it closed up that part of the business when BP took over. I also remember using graphite being sold in small lubricant cans pre-WD40 and it helped my Pinewood Derby car win a few races.
