Gain-twist rifling isn't that uncommon, really. It's sort of a speciality thing, but not too weird.

I'm not aware of anyone else using it? Much easier to make a consistent helix.

There's an Aussie Gunsmith doing squeeze bore .22LR down to .20 and .17.

Tempest, gain twist is always in the fringes, and has never gone away...black powder ball shooters like it.

Now squeeze bore - that's a bit different. That's weird. But gain-twist isn't that weird. It's a specialty job, but it's out common enough in the wild.

Squeeze bore was used with good effect on the early anti tank guns to improve sectional density, and increase velocity with still reasonable chamber pressures.
