So I just changed the oil on my new to me Matrix XRS. The Toyota filter i removed is significantly bigger than the ST4967. Are there other alternatives from Supertech? I don’t see the longer ST4386 on Walmart’s shelves anymore. If not, how about Fram? Have they improved their orange cheap orange PH filters?

You might try a Wix 57145, that will get you close. Here is a link you can save for oil filter cross reference searching, I use it all the time.
Oil Filter Cross-Reference
Hastings Filters has a size chart search under "Catalog Information" you start with English or Metric measurements and go from there - thread pitch, gasket diameters, etc.

Some Matrix models use the longer filter and others use the short filter. Wix has different filters listed for them (57145 for cars with rear disk brakes and 51394 for cars with rear drum brakes) but Fram and some other brands only list the shorter filter for both.

Those cheap orange cans are better than that supertech filter. Better efficiency for pennies more. Or get the xg4967 still just as good as before the change…or get the tg4967. Fram hate needs to stop.

Not to mention you can get a 4386 in the Fram, whereas the basic Supertech filters are only available in "Universal" sizes (ie. the smallest possible filter that will work)

IMO spend the extra and get the XG4386, or stay with the F1 since you are already at WM. But WM Toyota filters are closer to the XG in price.

the longer equivalent would be the fram 4386 and i've heard that some have gotten away with a larger 3614 and the biggest the 3600 if they've got space for more width. The tg 4386 is a little more but is bigger and filters a bit better too. but id try the 3614 or the 3600 is you have space.

Hmmm, so the 3600 and 3614 are longer not wider correct? If so this would work if they’re the same thread pitch and gasket diameter. Definitely can go with a long filter since it’s pretty much straight down with nothing in the way.

I saw a bunch of other Toyota filters, but not the F1. I even checked all the shelf stickers to see if they were just out of stock, but it looks like they don’t even carry the F1.

I remember reading horror stories about them, but that was like over 2 decades ago. I might just go with the PH4386 nextime.

the 4386 is longer than the 4967 but has the same can od. the 3614 is wider than both the 4xxx cans but appears to have the same gasket id and od range to seal. the 3600 is as wide as the 3614 but longer than it. You can google search ph4967 ph4386 ph3614 ph3600 individually and check the specs on frams website.

Of the 3/4-16 filters The 4386 is the longer version of the 4967, the 2951(may not be made anymore) is about the same size as the 3614 but has a gasket the same size as the 4386/4967, the 3600 and 3614 have a bigger gasket than the 4386 and 4967, the 16 and 8a are bigger around than the 3614 and 3600 but have the same gasket.

true the gasket on the 36xx isnt identical to the 4xxx but the range is still within tolerance to seal. The 16 and 8a are usually too wide and i haven't heard of them screwing into a Toyota engine so i didn't recommend it but it would be nice it it could.

the ph8a and ph16 are only like 4 hundredths of an inch larger than the ph3600 and ph3614 for all intents and purposes it's the same size, and I wouldn't attempt to use a ph8a or ph16 on a mount originally intended for the 4386/4967 or really even the ph3614 or ph3600 the mounting surface seems too small to me and really close to where you're risking a gasket blowout even if it does screw down. I'd only run the ph16 or ph8a on a filter on something that spec'd the 3614 or 3600 originally like some toyota V6s.

The 4398/4967 have a can od of 2.7" while the 3600/3614 has a can od of 2.9" so a 0.2" difference is not much.

Meanwhile the 8a/16 have a can od of 3.66" that's enough of a difference to where it may be too tight in the filter cavity.
