Last time my toilet gurgled my septic was backed up, it was the first time I saw feces come up from the shower drain. Quite horrifying actually.

Being on septic you may not have a main clean out, you may have to look at the inlet to the septic tank as sometimes there is a 90 degree bend there that the gunk gets built up on.
