I haven't had many Mazdas, mostly 1st gen Miatas years ago, so not sure what to check. A 4 cylinder in 4200 pound suv seems like the engine works hard, but at least a 4 is much easier to work on or replace than a V6 or 8. Any transmission issues ? It's a Touring AWD. Looks very clean inside and out. If the price stays in the 4 figures, I'm tempted.

Probably someone sat in it for very long drives. Less wear on seats etc. because not much in-and-out of passengers. In any case, its super high miles for a 2020. It definitely affects market value and re-saleability.

With 50,000 miles it's a $25,000+ car. Would someone pay half price if it's nice?

Haven't checked as its an auction car.
Someone very well might. Finding that one someone is going to be more difficult. I would guess 70%-80% of car shoppers would not even consider it due to the mileage alone. Then, its an auction vehicle, and then worries about the trans...

I am not judging you. If it works for you then get it. I am trying to help you since you asked for "thoughts" and I am volunteering mine. Sometimes "cheap" can be very expensive.

Seems like a high risk, low reward situation to me. It is undoubtedly in great shape for the mileage. I know that people still pay decent money for Toyotas with higher mileage but I'm not so sure that Mazda has the same reputation in the marketplace, even if they are in fact high quality vehicles.

IDK how that is possible to do. That is 420 miles a day, 5 days a week, for 3 years.
I recall there was a thread on some Subaru forum where a guy put a couple million miles on a CrossTrek in a short period of time and chronicalled the repairs along the way. Drawing a blank on what specifically he carried but he was a medical courier. I think he blew through the warranty mileage cap in like 6 months. Just a crazy amount of driving. Car was very reliable with a manual trans. Think the wheel bearings lasted like 800,000 miles or something ridiculous. Couldn’t pay me enough to drive that much.

It depends on how much it is.
Even if is cheap, I would still have serious reservations about a turbo 4-cyl with that many miles on it.
"These pictures say an awful lot for Mazda." Don't underestimate the probability that it was "done-up" (reconditioned) to look good for pictures and resale. The real pros can make even a ratty vehicle look like new. Frankly, to my eye the driver's seat and steering wheel both look like they were reconditioned.
I knew a guy who was an insurance adjuster in Texas that put those kind of miles on his vehicles. He traded it in on a new one every year with 120k-130k miles on it, and it looked like a vehicle with under 20k miles, still having it's original brake pads (and those not even being worn-out). He purchased Toyota products exclusively.

Wow that's a lot of miles! Honestly they are really good cars, reliable and solid. They did have potential cylinder head issues for a certain number of years but I think by 2020 or 2021 it was resolved. As others have said though not sure on the resale market on that one unless you can get it for ludicrously cheap.

We have a 2018 with a measly 69,000 mi but it has been a wonderful car, no rattles or squeaks and just a pleasure to drive. I was a little hesitant about the four cylinder turbo as well but it does perfectly fine, actually really enjoy the motor.
